This book is an account of lives well-lived by D.O. and Alice Brewer Stallard, who both lost a parent at an early age. They met and fell in love in the fall of 1924. She left a factory job in Winston-Salem to care for her sister, Eva, and her small daughter.
When their naval ship docked at Norfolk, Eva's husband, Francis, took D. O. home with him. Alice told us many times that her heart fell at his feet when she met him! As they played at the beach one day, she asked what the "D" stood for and he replied, "Darlin'." She took him home to meet her family and he won their hearts, too. They were married January 16, 1925. Their love was a long and lasting one and they were blessed with seven children.
