Over There Somewhere is a personal memoir, set in my home town in Kansas, during the turbulent years of World War II. It is not a history of the war. It is a simple account of how we were then, growing up unaware of the horrors of war, lulled into the assurance that it would stay "over there." Of course the war did touch us, though not all with the same impact. I have inserted significant headlines and articles from many issues of The Leavenworth Times, to chronicle news of the war, along side stories of the day to day, business-as-usual lives and tragedies of my family and the families close to us.
